Letters From Santa-Boost Your Child’s Ego

Use Letters from Santa to build self-esteem? What’s that?  Build self-esteem with Letters from Santa?  Hmmm…  Can that be done?

Yes, it can be done!  You may ask how I know… so let me explain.  I’ve sent letters from Santa to my kids for years…

I send letters from Santa… My name is Laurie Wajda.   I’m a mom.  I’m just a mom.  I clean up the spilt milk, put band aids on skinned knees, and occasionally patch up a broken heart.   You may not think it’s such a glamorous job.  But at the end of the day when the lights are out and the house is quiet, and I can kick back, put my feet up and watch little snippets run through my overworked mind, I see my five year old son running across the grass, skillfully kicking his soccer ball.  And then my teen’s voice echoes through my head as I hear her say ‘thank you’ to a complete stranger because he held the door.

I have sent letters from Santa to each of my children every Christmas for years, (and I send them directly from the North Pole.)  These letters from Santa are used for a different purpose than the usual “be good” that some parents use to scare their children into behaving …they promote self-esteem in children.  They don’t just tell them to be good or Santa will pass them by.   They are not used as bait for presents under the tree.  Rather, letters from Santa make children feel good about themselves, and celebrates their own accomplishments throughout the year.  Letters from Santa let them know how great they really are.

Letters from Santa build a child’s self-confidence, and showcase the ways they are great.  Did your daughter learn to ride her bike in July?  Did your son whack the winning home run last spring?  Were their grades excellent or were they awesome in school?  Why not remind them now, during a season of giving?  Why not send them letters from Santa during a season which promotes hope and faith and love…  Instill confidence in your children and in yourself as they giggle and rip open their very own letters from Santa.

Go ahead, use letters from Santa to tell your kids how much you love them; that you notice the great things they do.  Use letters from Santa and Santa, the icon himself, to tell your children how awesome they really are. Customize your letters from Santa from start to finish with details only you (or someone watching!) would know.   It does wonders for your soul, and theirs.  Use letters from Santa to build them up so they can carry that confidence with them for a lifetime.

Is sending letters from Santa the only thing that you can do to raise your child’s self esteem?  Probably not.  But, parent to parent, when letters from Santa arrive and he tells your children how wonderful they are, it certainly doesn’t hurt.

What do letters from Santa do?

Letters from Santa keep the magic of Santa Claus and Christmas alive.  They give parents a way to instill confidence in their children in a way that only Santa can…a way to realize and remember all the amazing things they can, and have done. Letters from Santa… a memory in the making…

Right now, close your eyes and, for a moment, go back in time… Picture yourself the first time you met Santa: When the world was magical and your biggest worry was what kind of cookie to have for dessert. Now, remember how easy it was to believe …what it was like when you climbed on that massive lap and stared up at those long white whiskers, and you could feel the kindness in the eyes behind those spectacles.  When you cupped your little hands around your mouth and whispered what you wanted for Christmas in his ear…how awesome was that?  And how amazing was it to wake up on Christmas morning and there it sat, under the tree, a testament to your faith that there really was magic and the world was a really cool place to be…

Now take that feeling, that memory of miracles and magic, and send it to your kids with letters from Santa, knowing all the while that someday they’ll know the magic was really in you, and in them. Let them know how much you care, how proud you are and how you would not trade one minute with them for the world. And then, give yourself a great big pat on the back, and know that you are the kind of parent every kid should have.  The way I see it, every kid deserves letters from Santa!
